Film house Picture Day has launched a new coffee-themed talk show on YouTube called “The Shift,” co-hosted by industry veterans Trish Rothgeb and Jay Lijewski. The series will bring together industry members for candid, roundtable-style discussions about the culture, challenges, and community of the coffee world.

“The vibe is conversation, not interview. No filters, no agenda. Just what’s top-of-mind from some of the best thinkers in the coffee industry,” says Trish. Click here to watch the first episode.

Single O Opens Day-to-Night Café in Kanda, Japan

After a decade in the Japanese market, Sydney, Australia-based coffee company Single O has opened up a full-service, day-to-night café in Kanda, Japan. The 50-seat venue is open seven days a week, offering brunch, baked goods, and coffee by day, and wine, cocktails, and snacks by night.

Fellow’s First Espresso Machine is Available for Pre-Order

Fellow Products has introduced their first-ever espresso machine: the Espresso Series 1—what they call “the new standard for home espresso machines.” The device is built to cater to both coffee newcomers and seasoned baristas, and is available for pre-order here.

The SCA is Taking Over the Q Grader Program

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) and the Coffee Quality Institute (CQI) have announced that they are evolving the content of the Q Grader program and transitioning its management.

As of October 1, 2025, the SCA will be operating an evolved Q Grader program based on the Coffee Value Assessment (CVA), and CQI will no longer be involved in the operations of the Q Grader Program.

Coffee Surpasses Bottled Water as Top Purchased Beverage in the U.S.

According to the latest biannual coffee market report from the U.S. National Coffee Association (NCA), coffee has topped bottled water as the most purchased beverage in the country. Online coffee sales are also on the rise, with 14% of people reporting purchasing coffee online in 2025, compared to 7% in 2020.
