Barista Mag:  Before coffee, did you work in a different job or industry, or what did you study in school?

Jefferson:  No, I have not worked in another industry. Currently I am in my first year of study in the Finance Public Accounting.

BMag:  How did you get started in coffee?

Jefferson:  In 2010, I needed a job because my little girl was born. The first job opportunity was Casa Del Cafe. It was there that I discovered my passion for the barista craft.


BMag:  What was your first amazing experience with coffee?

Jefferson: When I first experienced the flavors and aromas of coffee.

BMag:  Who has been your greatest influence in coffee? Why?

Jefferson:  Alejandro Mendez, winner of the 2011 WBC. In that year, I started working in the world of coffee and after I felt a great achievement and motivation.

BMag:  What would you like to see change about the coffee industry/community?

Jefferson:  In my country, I believe that we need a career that matches baristas with coffee producers to increase the quality and promotion of this industry in Nicaragua.

BMag:  Name a coffee luminary (famous person) you would like to meet, and why:

Jefferson: Raul Rodas, World Barista Champion 2012.

BMag:  Do you have a favorite customer? If so, tell us about him or her.

Jefferson: For me, all my clients are important. Seeing their faces after trying a well-prepared coffee motivates me to keep improving my skills.

BMag:  What are your interests outside of coffee?

Jefferson: I study accounting and work on my knowledge of economic resource management.

BMag:  Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Jefferson:  Running my own family business.

BMag:  Is there anyone you would like to thank or who helped you prepare for the WBC?

Jefferson:  To Casa Del Cafe, my school for these last three years. To ACEN for having confidence in me to represent my country. To my parents for their unconditional support, and of course to God for allowing me to live this dream.
