This weekend, Portland, Ore., is hosting its Pride festivities, which include the Portland Pride Parade taking place on Sunday. Businesses throughout Portland will honor the occasion with various specials—one such business is the Madrona Hill Café, which will offer the Pride Smoothie for the weekend, with $1 from each sale going toward Portland’s Q Center.

Hannah Miller, the café’s lead barista, says Madrona Hill celebrates Pride as a way of celebrating its local community. “We support Pride because it is supporting the people around us,” Hannah says. “Our ethos is serving people where they are and creating a welcoming space that is inclusive of all people. Pride is more than acceptance; it is a celebration of our amazing community, locally and at large.”

A dollar from each Pride Smoothie sale this weekend will go toward the Q Center in Portland.

For its weekend drink special, Madrona Hill Café is renaming its Rainbow Smoothie Special—which contains apples, orange juice, carrots, bananas, spinach, blueberries, and blackberries—the Pride Smoothie. “The ingredients are all the colors that make up a rainbow,” says Hannah.

The café will donate $1 from each sale of the drink to the Q Center in Portland, a safe space to support and celebrate LGBTQ diversity, equity, visibility, and community building. “We chose to support the local Q Center because participating outwardly, in our community, for a possibly underserved population is important to us,” says Hannah. “Supporting a local resource whose values closely match our own is hopefully adding value back into the community that so many people bring to us within ours.”
