Our Friends Rock

Checking my email first thing in the morning is one of my favorite parts of the day, because I’m bound to find messages about jams coming up, folks coming to visit and exciting things going on in the coffee community. Today I got all kinds of great news, and I thought I’d share it here.

Our pals at Stumptown opened their much anticipated first NYC location on Monday, and to rave reviews! Look what the New York Times wrote about them! Check it HERE. NY Stumpy barista Danielle Glasky wrote to tell me how busy and how satisfying the experience has been, and how absolutely stoked she is to be a part of it.

And our peeps at The Coffee Collective in Copenhagen, Denmark, debuted just about the coolest delivery bike we’ve ever seen. No, Klaus, you can’t put your baby in there, but maybe Casper would fit!

How many Danes, er ”we mean, pounds of coffee ”can you fit in that thing?

And my dear pal Jay Lijewski has landed with his girlfriend, Jessi Morris, in Reykjavik, making them the first official attendees of the Nordic Barista Cup to arrive! Jay and Jessi wanted to go early to soak up some Icelandic culture before the event kicks off next Wednesday, and so what was their first stop? Kaffismiðja Ísland, Sonja and Imma’s roastery, workshop and cafe.

Sonja and Imma's place is the ground floor of this building, where it looks all warm and cozy.

Ken and I are really excited to join Jay and Jessi in Iceland for the Nordic Barista Cup next week! We’ve got some work to finish up around here, but we’ll soon be on our way to get crazy, NBC style!

Things got a little wild at the end of the final day of the Nordic Barista Cup in Copenhagen in 2007. Above, members of Team Sweden, Team Norway and Team Denmark prepare to throw comrades into the canal. Just kidding.

So congratulations to all our industrious, creative and successful friends ”what a great international community we have!
