We’ve been getting to know a company called Troglo recently, since we started working with the awesome Andy Freivogel of Science, and we’ve learned some pretty interesting things about your WiFi. That’s right, coffeehouse owners, I’m talking to you.
According to Henning Moe, co-founder of Troglo, Inc., at least 40% of daily café customers connect to free WiFi. These days, free WiFi doesn’t create the excitement it used to, but customers expect it to be there, and they need it work well.

This is a valuable service for the user, but more importantly for the business. œSince most owners and managers always have things to say and products to sell, we thought it would make sense telling it to people when they connect to WiFi. With the right solution, WiFi can also help owners understand business critical factors such as customer loyalty and demographics.”
And it does work. Coffee shops sign up e-newsletters subscribers, connect with more customers in social media and successfully promote new products using Troglo’s service. Some stores have promoted events with a 60% bounce back rate.
Since its inception as a community WiFi initiative in early 2013, Troglo has evolved into a WiFi, marketing, and analytics system for restaurants, bars, and cafés. Troglo is, as Henning explains it, a no-hassle, easy-to-use tool that provides a quick return.
Ease of use is front and center. œCafé owners and managers told us they don’t have enough time as it is, and learning yet another tool was out of the question, he says. œSo we made it our mission to give some of that time back, while helping our partners increase customer loyalty and sales. The learning curve for a new café is really short. Most people are able to create great looking promotions in less than 30 minutes.”
