It’s time for Flight of Fancy, the interactive tasting game from Populace Coffee! Every year, the Michigan-based company creates a game for folks to order where they have to taste and identify mystery coffees. Folks who guess the coffees correctly are eligible to win a variety of prizes, and this year’s top prize is a trip to Guatemala.

Every year, Populace picks a different theme to showcase its annual Flight of Fancy contest. This year is maps and planes.

This year’s Flight of Fancy gives players four different coffees to taste and eight different origins to choose from. Along with the coffees, the package comes with a map, and folks choose which coffee they think is from which country by placing a cut out of a plane on the origin country, and then snapping a photo and sending it to the Populace judges. “This contest brings together a large community of coffee lovers across the country who are all tasting the same flight of coffees at the same exact time. It really tests your ability to decipher coffee regions amongst the best in the country. It’s also a lot of fun,” says Andrew Heppner, CEO of Populace Coffee.

Populace has always had fun with the format of Flight of Fancy. Last year’s game included a “Guess Who?”-style board, and entrants had to snap a photo of their board showing where they thought each of the coffees were from. Each year, the game always features beautiful artwork with a theme, making the game not just a fun challenge, but a delightful interactive experience.

Over thousands of folks have participated in Flight of Fancy since Populace started the game in 2014. This year they’ll limit entrants to 300 players.

The rules are simple: Guess where each of the four coffees come from, snap a photo with your guesses, and tag the photo to @populacecoffee with the hashtag #??FOF2019, along with sending an email to your friends at Populace.

In addition to a trip to Guatemala (where you’ll join the folks at Populace along with the team at Onyx Green Coffee Importers), participants can also win a Baratza Sette 270 + Acaia Lunar Scale, Department of Brewology Bloom Series Prints, a Fellow Stagg EKG and three Atmos Vacuum Canisters, a Kruve Sifter 12, five Ebb Coffee Filters, or a Handground Coffee Grinder. Order your kit now—it’ll be shipped and roasted in early February!
