Dispatches from Chile

A longtime professional and personal friend of Ken’s, mine and Barista Magazine’s, Jose Cleofas Arreola emailed today with some news from the recent Barista Championship of Chile!

The Chilean barista competitors were excited to receive copies of Barista Magazine!

Jose wrote to tell us that this first ever Barista Championship in Chile was two years in the making, and organized by Davorin Pahor. The competition, which drew a total of eight competitors, was held from January 21 through 23.

The first Barista Champion of Chile is Carlos Figueroa, from Valparaiso, who will represent Chile at the World Barista Championship in Vienna in June. Osvaldo Vera placed second, and Rene Salas won third place.

Congratulations to all the participants in the first Barista Championship of Chile!

Thanks for sharing, Jose! We look forward to hearing from you after the upcoming Barista Championships of Costa Rica and Panama in the next few weeks!

  1. Congratulations to all and I look forward to the day in Chile when I offer somebody a “good” cup of coffee and they don’t ask me if I mean Nescafe!
